Helping Kids Get Smart About Money

As a parent, I know I am not alone in worrying about teaching my kids to be responsible with money.  My two little ones are still pretty young (9 and 6) but I don’t think it’s ever too early to start this learning process.  

With the Money Savvy Pig, it is easy to stay organized and motivated.  I never even thought to start my kids thinking about investing but after reading the insert and really just thinking a little more on the topic myself; I really feel irritated for not thinking of this sooner!  I’ve used several methods to attempt to teach the value of a dollar and never really accomplished the task.  We’ve had garage sales, lemonade stands, allowances, guided shopping sprees, and none really got the message home.

The concept of this product is very simple and yet brilliant.  The four partitions are labeled Save, Spend, Donate, and Invest.  Each chamber has it’s own slot on top and stopper in the bottom.  Because it is made of clear plastic, you can see where you need more money.  This is great for kids because with mine being younger, they respond to this visual much easier than numbers on paper.  It comes with stickers that can be used to label each category to help remind you of what you are working towards.  You can use the stickers with pictures or draw your own on the blank ones provided.  You even get to pick the pigs’ eye color!

My son, 9, is so excited to move all his savings from his typical piggy into this bank.  He keeps asking me, “Mom, did you write the review yet?  Can I have the bank yet?”  For a kid that looses interest in, well, basically everything, this is a big deal.  I am definitely going to be purchasing another one in pink very soon for my daughter!
