Meyer Lemons…

What’s the deal with Meyer Lemons?

Okay, so thanks to Pinterest, I am now seeing all these great recipes that call for Meyer Lemons.  But what the heck is the difference between a Meyer Lemon and a regular lemon?

According to Wikipedia, “the Meyer lemon is a citrus fruit native to China thought to be a cross between a true lemon and either a mandarin or common orange.”

Thank you… erin’s kitchen for this!

Well, either way, it sounds and looks delicious.  So, off to the store I go…

Gosh darn it, I cannot find them anywhere!!!  None of the big grocery chains or little product marts have them.  My favorite little market guy had never even heard of them!

I’m considering getting a Meyer lemon tree to keep in the house…  😀

Anyone have any experience or thoughts?

  1. I have a Meyer lemon tree, but didn’t know it for years. When, I got it as a kid, we thought it was just a baby lemon tree, not knowing anything about gardening, but it never really hot any bigger. We just knew our lemons were slightly smaller, with thinner skin and the sweetest lemons you ever tasted! They still were tart like lemons should be, but they were just perfect! You had to add half the sugar to lemonade etc. You should get one! I always have to give some away because with that tiny tree I always have more than I can handle, even when other trees aren’t giving fruit due to frost or whatever!

  2. I usually buy them at Trader Joe’s and very rarely at Costco. They’re not as plentiful as regular lemons because they can only grow outdoors in Zones 8 or higher. I’ve had no luck growing them in Zone 6, and the ones I’ve bought for indoor plants never have produced fruit. They are wonderful, though, and in many recipes you use them skin & all.

  3. Thanks for the comments! I’m so excited! I will be receiving my very own Meyer Lemon Tree in just a couple weeks! I will posting all about it so stay tuned! 😀

  4. I can honestly say I’ve never come across someone who has wanted to get their own lemon tree! That’s really awesome though 😀 I can’t wait to see what you do with your new lemons!
