Meet Heather, a Sweepstakes Junkie

Meet Heather, a Sweepstakes Junkie

Hearing from a sweepstakes junkie can be quite motivating!  We have not had a “Sweeper’s Spotlight” post in quite some time, so I was thrilled to hear from Heather.  Sweepstaking can be a tiring hobby, so hearing from others about their winnings is key to staying with it.  The next win can always be just around the corner!

Tell us a little about yourself.

Hi, my name is Heather, and I’m a sweepstakes junkie! I’m also a freelance writer and photographer. I’m married, with four grown children and two beautiful granddaughters. We also have the cutest dog in the world, named Starbuck (after the Battlestar Galactica character, not the coffee).

How long have you been entering sweepstakes?

I’ve always loved contests of all kinds. I won my first poetry contest in the sixth grade, and I’m still giddy about that! I think my first exposure to an actual sweepstakes entry was the old days of Publishers Clearing House. I loved taking all the little stamps and placing them on the form, and dreaming of the fabulous cash and prizes!

How did you discover the hobby of sweepstaking?

It’s just been the last couple of years that I’ve actually gotten heavy into the online world of sweepstaking, and I got even more serious about it when my husband and I lost our jobs last summer (we’d worked side-by-side for years). Times are tough, and anything I can do to supplement our lives right now is a big plus.

What is your most memorable or exciting win?

I’ve not won anything BIG yet, but they’re all very exciting for me. Just this week I’ve scored two wins, for a total of $110 in cash and prizes! Over the years, I’ve won hundreds of dollars’ worth of makeup, personal products, clothes, hotel stays, books, jewelry, gift cards and more.

What is your favorite way to enter sweeps?

I prefer online, single form-entry sweeps. Blog giveaways are pretty involved, but the creation of rafflecopter and similar applications have helped that process (and bloggers give away great stuff!!). I can’t remember the last time I did a mail-in entry.

Got any tips you would like to share?

I don’t know if it’s a tip anyone would find useful, but I tend to approach it as an ‘odds game.’ The more entries I submit, the more likely I am to win, right? So on that foundation, I only enter for prizes I can actually make use of, and typically only play for cash prizes at $10 and over. This way, when I win, it’s a prize I can use/really want, rather than just going for a win and ending up with something that just takes up space (and deprives someone else of a prize they could’ve used!).

What is your favorite site on the web to find sweeps?

Facebook is a great resource, and the more blog giveaways I enter, the more pages I end up following and the more sweeps I’m exposed to. I also like to check for their ‘expiring soon’ lists (just in case I missed something!).

Where can we find you?  (If you want to be found)

I am ‘feathermaye’ everywhere! I’m currently in the process of re-doing my blog ( and will have a tab dedicated to my sweepstakes madness.

You consider sweepstaking…

Obsession, Relaxing, Therapeutic

What is the prize you dream of winning?

I really, really, REALLY hope to score some electronics soon. I want a Kindle (or a Nook), an iPad, a smart phone, a new laptop…

Hi Heather! I’m a sweep-junkie myself. My best prize so far was a $10K trip to Daytona 500 in 2009.

  2. Maegan Morin says:

HI! I too am a sweepstakes junkie! I won about $12,000 worth of stuff last year. Including all kinds of electronics and even a trip to Florida. Its so addictive and so much fun. I think the thing that bugs me the most though is people who complain that they never win anything. My response is always “Well, how many contests have you entered today?”

  3. So nice to meet a fellow sweeper!

It’s always great to hear personal stories and hear what advice they have to give 🙂

And Heather, your advice really DID help me! I’m one of those people addicted to the win, so I’m trying to back down on things I really don’t need or want-thanks for the reminder!

Hi Heather! It’s so nice to hear from other sweepstakes junkies =)
I won several small prizes as well as a vacation to a NASCAR event in Sonoma County, CA 4 years ago and I’ve just now gotten back into it in the last month or two (just had a baby, so I haven’t had time in awhile!). Anyhow, it’s definitely worth it if you have time and enjoy it, and it was so nice to ‘meet’ you!

  5. Hi y’all!! I’ve been so busy sweeping, I totally missed my feature here!!

Some days I can’t believe how much time I spend searching and entering. Your prize reports are definitely encouraging.

Thanks to Jennifer for featuring me here on SweepTight! I had a lot of fun doing the interview and hope to ‘meet’ more sweepers here soon. 🙂
