Driving with a new baby can be horrifying. After having each of my children I went through a stage that I was afraid of driving with them in the car. Any parent can tell you that the safety of their children is one of their highest priorities. Car accidents are unpredictable and can come from any angle. In fact, they are “360 degrees of unpredictable”, as Britax says. At Britax, they turn that principle around and give your little ones 360 degrees of protection and best of all: their seats are designed so you can SEE their safety features and know your little one is protected! That’s why my husband and I trust Britax with the safety of both our toddler and infant while driving.
Driving Safely with Baby
We recently moved our seven month old baby girl from her infant car seat to a convertible car seat and there was only one brand that came to mind: Britax. I was thrilled that Britax just released their G3 Convertible Car Seats with incredible safety features, so I contacted them about doing a review. They sent us their Boulevard 70-G3 Convertible Car Seat to review, and wow! I was impressed and comforted with the numerous safety features!

Britax is the Driving Force in Safety for Baby
First, I love Britax convertible car seats and the fact that you can use them rear facing for younger infants/toddlers, and forward facing for older toddlers. It’s a product that can grow with your child. The rear facing weight restrictions are from 5-40 pounds, and forward facing it is 20-70 pounds (with forward facing requiring child to be at least one year of age). Both rear and forward facing can fit a child 49 inches tall, or less, and have a recline for child comfort and positioning.
In June of this year, Britax incorporated the HUGS Chest Pads with SafeCell Technology in their new G3 Boulevard, Pavilion and Advocate seats. HUGS stands for Harness Ultra-Guard System. The HUGS Chest Pads with SafeCell Technology are affixed to the car seat to ensure proper positioning. The SafeCells located on the chest pads are designed to compress in a crash and manage energy to reduce the amount of impact forces experienced by a child.
These HUGS Chest Pads ensure proper positioning, help manage energy and provide resistance to the forward movement of your child during a crash, which will reduce the risk of a head injury. The five-point harness is also tangle free (woohoo!) and distributes crash forces across the strongest parts of the body. It also provides a secure fit. The harness is easily adjustable without having to rethread the harness straps, and there are two buckle positions for your growing child! Once secured in place with this harness, baby will be safe while you are driving! The seat also has harness holders that keep the straps pulled back to the sides when placing your child in the seat – see, they think of making it easy for parents, too!
Another feature I love is the EZ Buckle System that retains the harness buckle in a forward position and also prevents your child from sitting on the buckle when getting in the car seat. This makes it incredibly easy to get baby into the seat without having to dig for the buckle underneath baby when he or she is in the sitting position. We got our toddler’s Britax Roundabout car seat about 2 years ago and I would love to have this feature on his seat!
Another safety feature I love is the True Side Impact Protection with the adjustable head rest. This part of the seat helps in keeping the head, neck and spine aligned and is adjustable. You can see in the picture above on the left it is as high as it will go, on the right it is at the correct setting for my 7 month old daughter. I absolutely love that this can be adjusted! It’s a great feature!
Installation is rather simple with the Premium Lower Latch Connectors. These connectors are push-button connectors that allow you to install the seat using the LATCH system. The LATCH system may not be the best method for your vehicle, however, it is what works best for us. This system ensures a tight installation, which limits movement of the child restraint, limiting movement of the child during a crash. The tight installation minimizes injury during a crash. Thankfully we do not have to uninstall and reinstall the seat, but these latch connectors would make that much easier if you had to. I was actually able to install the child seat alone and only needed my husband to make sure the straps were as tight as they could get! Britax also has integrated steel bars (see picture on left) on their seats to strengthen the connection to the vehicle and reduce the forward flexing of the child seat. All safety features we can see! I told you they were incredible!
The Boulevard has an incredibly plush and easy to remove cover with matching comfort pads and infant body pillow. The cover pads and pillow provide extra comfort and easy cleaning without disassembling or uninstalling the child seat. I love that the infant body pillow is included with the seat and can be easily removed when your child is older. At 7 months we are still using this pillow for our daughter, and will probably keep it in for some time.
Outside of the incredible safety features, the Britax Boulevard 70 G3 is super comfy too! You can see my daughter sleeping in these pictures, which she often does in her cozy Britax seat as we are driving around!
Life is full of unknowns, safety shouldn’t be one of them.
With Britax, you’ll get safety 360 degrees of protection, why put your child in anything else? The Britax Boulevard 70 G3 Convertible Child Seat is available in six different fabrics and can be purchased in stores or online for $319.99.
